One Baptism

Stacy Dean Crim

The Bible says there is “one baptism”, Ephesians 4:5.  There is great confusion in religion today regarding the “one baptism” of the Scriptures.  Is it important?  Is it necessary for salvation?  Please know, God is not the author of such confusion. (I Corinthians 14:33)

Baptism is Commanded
“…Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall received the gift of the Holy Spirit.”    Acts 2:38

“Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord….”   Acts 10:48

Baptism Saves
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.”       Mark 16:16

“…when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.  The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”        I Peter 3:20-21

Baptism washes away sin
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins,…”   Acts 2:38

And now why tarriest thou?  Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”      Acts 22:16

Baptism is a Burial - (see the chart on the right)
“Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the

faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead.”

                                                                                Colossians 2:12

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized

into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like

as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also

should walk in newness of life.”                   Romans 6:3-4

Baptism is a Planting - (see the chart on the right)
“For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall

also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”    Romans 6:5

Baptism destroys the body of sin
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body

of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”    Romans 6:6

Baptism frees one from sin
“For he that is dead is freed from sin.”  Romans 6:7

Baptism places us “into Christ”
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”    Galatians 3:27

GOD’S PLAN TO SAVE MAN THROUGH CHRIST JESUS

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"    (Ephesians 2:8)

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."    (Romans 10:17)

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."   (Mark 16:16)

“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Romans 10:8-10

"The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"    (1 Peter 3:21)
